Dr. Tang has received his B.S. degree in naval engineering from Shanghai Jiaotong University, China, M.S. degree in computer science from Bowie State University and Ph.D. degree in computer science from George Washington University in U. S. A. respectively. Prior to joinging the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), he worked as a software architect and research scientist at Raytheon Corporate, a major defense company in U. S. A. and gained over 10 years experience in large-scale data processing software design and development in application domains as defenese system and satelite data network. Now he is a full professor and the Associate Dean of the School of Information and Software Engineering, UESTC, and serves as the Chief Professor for the software engineering program and the Member of Academic Committee of UESTC. He also serves as the Member of the EHR and Regional Health Information System Committee, China Healthcare Management Association.

Dr. Tang currently is leading the Intelligent Computing System Lab and persuing research work in the fields of cloud-based distributed systems, big data computing architecture, and mobile application development. He has published over 30 academic papers in journals or international conferences since 2009 and authored a textbook Big Data Analytics and Computation, published by Tsinghua University Press in 2017.
