Design of a Low-cost X-band FMCW radar Transceiver Front-end

Abstract:The paper presents the design of a cost-effective miniaturized X-band frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar transceiver front-end for automotive collision avoidance radar applications. The front-end integrates the frequency source, transmitter, and receiver into a compact cavity measuring 12cmx12cmx3cm. Test results show that the transceiver front-end can achieve phase noise better than 85dBc/Hz@1KHz in 7.9GHz single-frequency mode, the bandwidth of the FMCW signal greater than 200MHz in sweeping mode, adjustable modulation period (>2ms), and the power flatness within +/- 2dBm, meeting the requirements of FMCW radar when measured the distance between the target.
